The Biography of Ryan Honl
Ryan Honl, a commissioned Army officer who led a parachute infantry platoon during Desert Storm in 1991 and later received the Liberation of Kuwait Medal, has worked successfully for nearly 10 years in the field of ophthalmic pharmaceutical sales.
Ryan Honl currently
serves as District Sales Manager in charge of
ophthalmic pharmaceuticals for contact lens supplier Vistakon
Pharmaceuticals,
a division of Johnson & Johnson Vision Care. Since 2004, Ryan Honl
has
overseen 10 sales representatives who
cover 14 states. During this time, Ryan Honl’s district has been
honored by
Vistakon for holding highest overall sales in ’05, out of six in the
nation. In
’06, Ryan Honl received the Johnson & Johnson Global Standards of
Leadership Award. He has consistently earned glowing annual review
ratings over
the past three years, and has successfully coached numerous employees
to
greater responsibilities.
Prior to Vistakon, Ryan Honl worked from ’03 to ’04 as District Sales Manager in charge of ophthalmic pharmaceuticals for Santen, Inc. At this point in his career, his responsibilities included managing a team of nine sales reps. Ryan Honl’s achievements with Santen include hitting a 115% sales quota and completing a REACH management course. Ryan Honl made the shift to Vistakon when Santen was acquired by Johnson & Johnson in ’04.
Ryan Honl worked his
way up the
ranks at Santen with two previous positions. In ’02, he was named Sales Training Manager in the
ophthalmic pharmaceuticals division.
Working under the Director of Sales Training, Ryan Honl assisted in
training 64
members of Santen’s national sales force.
Ryan
Honl first joined Santen as a Specialty
Pharmaceutical Sales Representative, a position he held from ’00 to
’02. As
sales rep, Ryan Honl managed approximately 200 accounts. The work
involved
building relationships with ophthalmologists to improve territory
market share.
During this time, Ryan Honl was honored as Sales Representative of the
Quarter
for the Southeast Region during two consecutive quarters in ’01, and
for
achieving the highest market share in the sales force for a key Santen
product
during one quarter in ’02.
Ryan
Honl began his career in this field when he took a position as Pharmaceutical Sales Representative for
Warner Chilcott, a supplier of women’s healthcare and dermatology
pharmaceuticals, from ’99 to ’00. Placed in charge of nearly 200
accounts
involving relationship-building with doctors of women’s health,
urology, and
cardiology, Ryan Honl managed to move an underperforming territory to
within
the top 50% of market share within six months of joining the firm.
Ryan
Honl spent nearly 10 years serving with the U.S. Army.
He enlisted directly out of high school, and at the age
of 18, found himself participating in Desert Shield/Storm in the Corps
of
Engineers serving in Saudi Arabia and Iraq. He distinguished himself
sufficiently that he was appointed by Secretary of Defense to attend
West Point
Military Academy from the enlisted ranks. During his time with the
Army, Ryan
Honl completed a course in French at the French Defense Department
Language
School for foreign officers at Rochefort Sur Mer, France, and studied
at the
French Military Academy for one semester.
In this
free time, Ryan Honl practices judo, volunteers at a local
homeless shelter and teaches Sunday school classes. A dog lover, he is
a fan of
German shepherds and huskies. He also enjoys reading history books when
time
permits. He resides in Valparaiso, Ind., with his wife and two
daughters.
